Independent travel guide
Editorial policy
Travel Australia publishes independent guidance designed to be useful before and during a trip. Accuracy, practical value and a clear separation between editorial judgement and commercial income guide every page.
Research and sourcing
Writers prioritise primary sources for facts that can affect safety, cost or access: government departments, park authorities, transport agencies, meteorological services and the provider responsible for a service. Reputable secondary sources may add context. Dates are checked, conflicting claims are resolved where possible and uncertainty is stated rather than hidden.
Destination advice must be specific enough to help a reader act. Pages should explain trade-offs, travel time, seasonal limits and who an experience may not suit. Shared filler, unsupported superlatives and pages created only to capture a search phrase do not meet the publishing standard. Drafts below that standard are excluded from search and navigation until substantively edited.
First-hand experience and reviews
The publication distinguishes first-hand reporting from researched guidance. It does not claim that a writer visited, paid for or tested an experience unless that occurred. Reviews consider the whole reader proposition, including logistics, value, accessibility, safety information and cancellation terms. A complimentary experience or hosted stay is disclosed prominently and does not guarantee favourable coverage.
Affiliate links and advertising
Some links earn a commission if a reader books, at no additional cost to the reader. Commercial availability does not determine rankings, conclusions or criticism. Affiliate links are disclosed on relevant pages and covered by the full disclosure. GetYourGuide widgets retained on established guides use partner ID 22VGUPO. Widgets are not added to incomplete pages merely to monetise them.
Paid placements, if accepted, are labelled as advertising or sponsored content. Advertisers do not receive advance approval of independent editorial coverage. The publication does not sell the removal of accurate criticism or make positive editorial treatment a condition of a commercial relationship.
Corrections
Material factual errors are corrected promptly after verification. Minor spelling or style changes may be made without a note; a substantial correction should be made transparently where the context requires it. Readers and businesses can submit evidence through the contact page. A disagreement with an opinion is considered, but it is not automatically a factual error.
Responsible and inclusive coverage
Coverage should respect Traditional Owners, cultural protocols, protected places, wildlife and local communities. Guidance avoids encouraging trespass, unsafe access, wildlife handling or visits that conflict with closures. Accessibility claims are made carefully and with concrete detail where verified. Language should be respectful and should not stereotype communities or treat culturally significant places as scenery without context.
Conflicts and contributor conduct
Contributors must disclose financial, family or employment relationships that could reasonably affect coverage. They may not request personal benefits in exchange for an article or imply that positive treatment is available for payment. When specialist advice is needed, the source and its relevant expertise should be clear. Personal information gathered during reporting is limited to what the work requires and is handled according to the privacy policy.
Images and reader trust
Images should represent the place or experience accurately. Material edits, composites and supplied promotional photographs should not mislead readers about crowds, access, wildlife proximity or ordinary conditions. Captions should identify supplied or illustrative material where that context matters.
Updates
High-risk and fast-changing information receives priority: entry rules, closures, transport, pricing and safety. No travel site can guarantee that every detail remains current, so pages direct readers to responsible official sources where confirmation matters. This policy was last reviewed on 25 September 2026.
