The Top End and Kakadu
The Top End and Kakadu
Welcome to Darwin & The Top End, Northern Territory
At times, the Top End seems to be Australia's biggest waterhole, its scenery focusing on its rivers and billabongs, waterfalls and plunge pools, gorges and flood plains and the sea beyond. Fir its original inhabitants it was a land of plenty, rich in both food and Dreamtime legend. For centuries Macassan traders sailed to our shores and the Top End's closeness to international trade routes tantalised colonists from the south.
While there's plenty of untamed wilderness, a cool drink and a comfortable night's sleep is never far away, because the Top End is filled with a wide choice of accommodation, shady caravan parks and camping grounds to suit everyone's needs.
When you use Darwin as your starting point for exploring the region, you can find your way to art galleries 60,000 years old, the ruins of half forgotten outposts, fishing grounds teeming with barramundi, thermal springs, roaring waterfalls, fizzing plunge pools - not forgetting 5 star hotels and eco-resorts, truly multi-national restaurants, a casino and spectacular chopper and light plane flights.
So, don't just come to the Top End for World Heritage listed Kakadu National Park. There really is so much more to enjoy in this fascinating and beautiful part of Australia!
